The new innovation building is designed as a horizontal research platform. Communication, exchange of knowledge and mutual visibility are indispensable cornerstones of modern research: communication on one level is much easier than on the vertical.
Ceilings are barriers that are difficult to overcome, especially when the height exceeds several floors and the elevators are increasingly used. The new building was designed to be two-story and the main communication level was placed on the connecting floor to the existing building, the 1st floor.
The structure is kept simple and clear. Four core groups structure the floor plan lengthways and allow efficient, simple horizontal media access. The riser zones are served vertically via the technical center placed on the roof in the axis of the cores.
The approx. 140m long, approx. 35m wide and all-round lighted floor plan, with the position and compactness of the cores, offers large contiguous and freely playable areas for various usage scenarios.
